Parkinson’s Rule
Parkinson’s Rule states that work expands to fill the time available for its completion which means that if you give yourself an entire day to complete a two-hour task, then (psychologically speaking) the task will increase in complexity and become more daunting.
The essence of Parkinson’s Law is to set deadlines that are much shorter than you’ve ever set them before. This forces you to focus on the essentials, avoid distractions and stop procrastinating — making you extremely productive and helping you achieve better results in less time.
Pareto Principle
The Pareto Principle states that 80% of results come from 20% of the efforts. The trick is identifying the 20% that really matters and focusing on those areas because they are the ones that drive your results. It is more popularly known as the 80/20 rule and is very commonly used in the corporate world especially by management consultants to efficiently allocate their time and resources.
For example, if you're doing an online course, focus on 20% of the content that will be needed for 80% of the application purposes. Similarly, if 20% of your customers are driving 80% of your sales, you may want to focus on those customers and reward them for their loyalty.
Design Thinking
Design thinking is a process for creative problem-solving. It is commonly used in product development. It involves developing an understanding of the people for whom we’re designing the products or services. It helps us observe and develop empathy with the target user to help come up with the best solution to the problem faced by the user.
We first start with a general problem and conduct research to find out which is the most prominent problem faced by the user by empathizing with them, after which we try to ideate all the possible solutions of which we select the most viable solution which can be made into a working prototype called Minimum Viable Product.
KPIs
KPI stands for key performance indicator, a quantifiable measure of performance over time for a specific objective. KPIs provide targets for teams to shoot for, milestones to gauge progress, and insights that help people across the organization make better decisions.
